What To Expect
Visitor Information
Every Sunday begins a new week of thinking, living, and serving faithfully at Emerywood Baptist Church and the surrounding community.
Baptist?
You may have heard around town “We’re a different type of Baptist.” By that, we mean you’ll find here many of the best things about our Baptist heritage and practice, but you’ll also find creative new expressions and echoes of the larger Christian community. We’re Christian by conviction, Baptist by tradition and ecumenical in spirit. Emerywood seeks, in the spirit of ecumenism, to cooperate with other fellowships to meet needs wherever they exist. Emerywood has been a member of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship since the early 1990’s, and in the early 2000’s, we voted to singly align with them. We’re open to all and closed to none.
Will I be Welcome? Statement of Inclusion
We affirm the worth and dignity of all people. We recognize, celebrate, and give thanks for the many diverse gifts of God among us. Just as Jesus welcomed everyone into his fellowship, we welcome all people to our congregation regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental ability, income, or political beliefs. All are welcome to worship, serve, and participate fully in the life, leadership and ministry of Emerywood.
We commit ourselves to ensuring our place of worship is a safe place where all people will feel comfortable and know that they are accepted and loved without the threat of judgment or condemnation. We come together in Christ’s name to celebrate our diversity and discover our unity.
How do Sunday mornings @ Emerywood start?
The typical Sunday morning starts in our Gathering Area at 8:45 for coffee and apple fritters, before heading to Sunday School which begins at 9:00am.
There are many classes to choose from for all ages. Each week different classes meet to share fellowship, prayer, and study scripture.
The majority of our classes use the Nurturing Faith curriculum based on the lectionary. Other classes choose different curriculum or topical series. Some classes follow a lecture format while others have open discussion. Some classes are divided by age while others are intergenerational.
Each challenges its members to grow and develop their faith both individually and collectively.
What time is worship?
Each Sunday, the congregation gathers in our Sanctuary for a blended worship service—including prayer, Scripture, preaching, hymns, and beautiful music—at 10:00 AM. Service lasts approximately 1 hour.
Do members get together after worship?
After Sunday School and worship, many of our members find additional fellowship time with each other out together for a meal.
Is there childcare available?
We provide nursery care for children, infant through pre-school. The nursery is open on Sundays from 8:30 am – 12:00 noon, on Wednesday nights from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm, as well as during other various church activities.
The nursery is located on the main floor. Please enter the building at the door located under the Breezeway, and take a left. The Children’s Area is near the end of this hallway.
We encourage visitors with children to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to service to allow time to get chidlren comfortably in the nursery. Please feel free to ask anyone you encounter for directions!
Are visitors expected to give?
If you are a guest, please do not feel any obligation to give. We believe giving is an act of worship wherein those who have a personal relationship with God through Christ, give regularly in response to God’s gracious gifts.
Where can I park?
There is a large parking lot located directly beside the sanctuary. Please feel free to use any of these spaces during your visits.
